12 Feb Movie Review – Jolly LLB 2
Starring Akshay Kumar and Huma Qureshi, Jolly LLB 2 is a sequel to Jolly LLB released in 2013. The second installment, just like the first, is a courtroom drama with just enough entertainment to keep its viewers hooked.
Akshay Kumar, the lead actor, plays Jagdishwar Mishra aka Jolly, an assistant lawyer who is very ambitious but he realizes that the only way to rise is by being a corrupt lawyer so he starts off as a crook. However, later in the film he transforms into a licit litigator after a helpless client commits suicide. The movie satirizes India’s legal system and corruption, among other things. Subhash Kapoor, the writer and director of the film has immense knowledge of India’s burgeoning legal system which reflects in the film.
The first half of the film is quite entertaining while the second half is filled with excess courtroom drama. So much so, that it makes the movie a bit dull.
The film has strong punch-lines which viewers will certainly remember and will probably imitate for a long time.
Aside from highlighting the corrupt legal system, the director also takes a jab at India’s education system. It’s a shame that despite the film’s strong plotline, it loses its charm in the second half for a lot of reasons. Some scenes are even laughable. Often the movie goes off-topic and several courtroom scenes show attendees applauding at every punch-line.
Nonetheless, Jolly LLB 2 is worth watching once if you into entertaining films.
